(Adelaide, Australia, 26th of February 2017)

Two pretty lazy days in Adelaide where we Visited “The Fringe” and watched a magic show with Charlie Caper and Malin Nilsson – they had also traveled all the way from Sweden … Most of the time we relaxed in the hotel room and in the park nearby. Phew!

(Kangaroo Island, Australia, 24th of February 2017)

Our breakfast was served at 07.00 and 8.00 o’clock, we were ready for departure.
Our first stop was at the Remarkable Rocks. Nothing special with some rocks, we thought, but they were actually very fascinating. The Remarkable Rocks are a pile of huge boulders of unusual shapes leaning against each other on a cliff by the sea. Many photos were taken there!

Our next stop this day was a forest with lots of koalas. It took a while before we saw the first koala, but then more and more of them showed up. They are very lazy and often sit still and hang on a branch. We were lucky and saw a koala climbing down from one tree and up into another.

This day we had booked a bus trip to Kangaroo Island. As our hotel is set back from the center the shuttle bus did not pick up at our hotel and to be sure not to miss the departure from the central bus station, we booked a taxi. Ugh, it’s tough to get ready for departure already at six o’clock in the morning … Once we came to the bus station the bus of course was not on time (so we could have taken a city bus if we had wanted) and the information was not so good on how the procedure with buses to Kangaroo Island worked. Finally, we went up to some kind of desk where there sat a man and then finally we got our tickets and were also told which platform the bus would departure from. A small sign of some kind with information to the lost bus tourists would be a preference.

(Adelaide, Australia, 22th of February 2017)

A tough morning with paperwork and planning ahead. Normally quite nice but this morning we were both a little too slow. We decided that I would do yoga and Johan go on a cycle tour before we would head off to a swimming pool nearby and swim a few thousand meters. It proved to be a little longer than expected to the swimming pool and the road was really straight. Afterwards, we concluded that it was 7 km back and forth, something that felt very long and boring in the heat. The pool awas only 20 meters long and very shallow so the swimming was not optimal, but at least we got some training.

It is now more than two months since I did yoga and I decided to finally start again. Johan took the bike and drove off up the mountain located just behind our hotel and I did yoga in the room. You can not imagine how stiff you can get after a few months without yoga … But it was fun and if I just keep practicing I’ll probably get the body back into shape. I also decided to go for a bicycle ride today and went up the hill behind the hotel. I had planned to bike 10 km up the hill and then ride back the same way. I did not leave the hotel until after the clock 11 so it was more than 30 degrees. Then I met Johan (who was on his way down) after three kilometers up the hill, and I decided to give up and ride back again … It’s over a month since last time I sat on a bike (except the trial in Brisbane) and it feels a lot longer. But it is just to keep on fighting. I like to travel by bike (with bicycle bags) a lot better, I do not like to ride alone in surroundings I do not know, and especially not when I’m not surrounded by beautiful views. When we lived in Mallorca last spring, I had no problem to ride up and down the hills, but there the nature is amazing and there is so much to look at along the way.

Djuki Mala!!

(Adelaide, Australia, 19th of February 2017)

A lazy morning as we took advantage of our luxurious (and expensive!) hotel room to the maximum. The 11 we were supposed to check out and so we did. We went back to Fullarton Motor Lodge to use the offer of a free night because of their mistake not being able to give us a room when we came back from Alice Springs. We checked in and unpacked.

In the evening we had booked a show at Adelaide Fringe – Djuki Mala. On the way there we went to a restaurant where we had schnitzel and some beers. Mega portions!

Djuki Mala was a show with five boys of Aboriginal origin who gave us a show with inspiration from all corners of the world. We saw Zorba dance, Indian dance, Michael Jackson dance etc. Between the songs, they told us the story behind these five guys who initially just wanted to dance. Very humorous, interesting and fun!

This morning we woke up not knowing where we would stay the next night .. Luckily it finally emerged a hotel room which although it was very expensive was cheaper than 5000 per night as the one we did find the day before … A night of 2900 SEK had to be a luxury exception! We charmed our hotel proprietor and once again we were allowed to keep most of our luggage until Sunday when we were promised a free night at the hotel as compensation for the problems they caused the other day.
The night we spent on the town when there was a big opening parade of the Adelaide Fringe, a month-long cultural festival. Funny!

(Adelaide, Australia, 17th of February 2017)

We decided that we wanted to stay in Adelaide a little longer partly because of the Fringe – a festival that we would like to have time to visit – and partly because we have not had time to plan our journey into the future. Finding a hotel turned out to be not the easiest thing this weekend. Besides the festival there was also a Guns and Roses concert in Town and all the hotels were unfortunately fully booked. However, we had a roof over our heads one more night so we decided that the problem would resolve by itself tomorrow.
During the afternoon we amused ourselves with putting together some things we wanted to send home, and then went to the post office to send the parcel. It was a glorious mix of bicycle tires, clothes and newly purchased mugs (with super nice aboriginal patterns).
The evening we spent in town where the festival offered a show of music and light with aboriginal dance and amazing light shows on the house façades.

It was time to head back to Adelaide. We had booked a flight as we did not want to spend another 20 hours on a Greyhound bus .. When we arrived in Adelaide Airport we took a bus into the city and took the opportunity to have lunch when being in town. Then we took a bus back to our hotel Fullarton Motor Lodge where we had stored our luggage. But some kind of misunderstanding resulted in Fullarton Motel being fully booked but fortunately we got some help to find a new hotel and to transport our luggage – luckily it was only a few hundred meters away. We booked two nights and moved into our room. Yet a typical motel room but at least close to shops and restaurants.

(The Outback, Australia, 15th of February 2017)

Also this morning, the had to wake up at 04.00 but now we had time to have breakfast before we left. Today’s goal was Kings Canyon, Another large rock in the middle of nowhere. We did not really know much about Kings Canyon but it turned out to be a really pleasant surprise. John was feeling better now and chose to join today’s hike. This walk was so beautiful!! Kings Canyon was better than both Uluru and Kata Tjuta in aesthetic experiences.
