Castro – a colourful town with fabolous pizzas
(Castro, Chile, 14-16th of November 2017)
Chiloe is an island south-west of Puerto Montt where a lot of Chilean people go to spend their holidays. The houses are colourful and the pace is slow.
We had booked a hotel in a palafito area – a house built on poles in the water. Our room was very nice with windows facing three directions over the waterfront.
But unfortunately the town centre was built on a hill, 100 meter above sea level, in other words, 100 meters above where we were staying..
In Castro we had some not-so-much-of-chilean, but very delicious food. The first evening we had a really good pizza in a place next door to our hotel. The guy who owned the place was very nice and told us that he imported things from Italy to get the “real” flavour. The second night we had sushi in a small restaurant up the hill. They use creamy cheese as a filling in most sushi in South America, it tastes good but it is also very saturating, not a feeling you get after sushi in Sweden, where it is considered as a “light” meal.
