Puno and Lake Titicaca

(Puno, Peru, 31st of October – 3rd of November 2017)

Next stop Puno, a small town right beside Lake Titicaca. Christel had read that there would be a folklore festival in Puno the first week of November – however, if there was one we did not see any of it…. But we were there for Halloween and that was amazing. Thousands of people were out in the streets in the city centre and a lot of them were dressed up in Halloween costumes.

The children walked around visiting all the  shops asking for candy and we even met a group of zombies being out on an evening stroll.

We spent one day on Lake Titicaca where we met the Uru people.

They live on floating islands made of reed. These days most of their income comes from tourists, all day long boats with tourists arrive to the islands. Of course this makes a visit very touristy but the Uru people seem really happy to meet new people and this make the visit really fun.

We got to see one of their houses, very basic but they did store electricity from solar cells so they could watch TV and have some light bulbs on in the nighttime as an open fire or candle easily could put the island on fire…!

We also did a stop at an Island called Taquile Island. We were entertaied by some local dancers, went for some climbing and enjoyed some local food.
