Bogota…
(Bogota, Colombia, 27-30th of September 2017)
When we arrived at the airport in Bogota we were picked up by a pre booked taxi. Our hotel was situated in the Old Town and did not really look like a hotel, more like an ordinary house with a doorbell on the outside. On the inside on the other hand it was really beautiful and well refurbished. First we were shown to a room without a window but as we did not approve of that one we were moved to a really nice one.
Bogota is the only place so far where it has not felt 100 % comfortable to wander around after dark, not because of the people in the city, more because of the policemen that where al over the place. They gave us a feeling of safety, although you did wonder why there where that many…
As usual we went on a free walking tour in Bogota which is a messy and crowded place and the old town is a mish mash of new and old buildings. But the tour was good – it was focused on Colombian history and we learned a lot about Pablo Escobars life.
The only traditional sightseeing we did was to visit “Museum del Oro”, the Gold Museum, to see all kind of objects made of gold.
One evening we heard the sound of drums from the street outside the hotel. We went out and found us surrounded by a big group of people moving down the street playing their drums with a big bunch of followers, the situation gave us a sense of being in the middle of a carnival. It was really cool to listen to and we followed them for a few blocks.
One day we went on a trip to Zipaquira to visit a cathedral made of salt. A really cool place!
