Heading for Adelaide

(Adeleide, Australia, 10th of February 2017)

We had booked a transfer to the airport in Brisbane with the same taxi company we had traveled wíth earlier as we knew they would have room for our bikes. Once at the airport we had to repack our bags when checking as the staff of Virgin Australia insisted that we could not add up the weight of our bags. Instead each bag was not allowed to weigh more than 23 kilos. In addition, she weighed our hand baggage to check that they did not weigh more than 7 kilos each, something we almost never happened before anywhere in the world. Then as our hand luggage was on the verge weight we had to open the bike boxes and fill them with some of our heavier stuff. Unnecessarily complicated, we thought.

When we arrived in Adelaide a shuttle waited for us to drive us to our hotel. The temperature outside was over 40 degrees and we were really pleased that we had not decided transport our luggage in a less convenient way. When it’s over 40 degrees, everything becomes a little harder and the body moves more slowly. So be driven from door to door was absolutely worth the 60 AUD it cost.

Since we had only booked one night in Adelaide, it was not worthwhile to buy a lot of groceries. We had brought butter, jam and bags of porridge with us from Brisbane so all we needed was a bit of bread and milk to eat breakfast. For dinner, we had Indian food (yes, it’s so good …) we brought with us from the restaurant to the hotel and ate in bed.

We had been given permission by the hotel proprietress to leave our bikes and some of our luggage at the hotel until we return to Adelaide after visiting the Outback for a few days and it was really nice of her. We repacked our luggage so we just had two bike bags and two small backpacks with valuables to bring on the bus to Alice Springs.
