The beautiful city by the lake – some really nice days in Udaipur!
After a short taxi ride we arrived at the hotel which turned out to be very nice and situated just by the lake which Udaipur is built around.
We started off by leaving our luggage in our room and then went straight to breakfast at the rooftop restaurant as it was still early in the morning when we arrived. What a view and what a breakfast after a log night at the train!! We could choose from a long menu and we could pick five items per person. Very good coffee, juice, banana pancake, toast and fruit – most luxurious breakfast in a long time!
We then decided that we wanted to see the real Udaipur, off the tourist trail, and started to walk towards “the local market.” And we got what we wanted, not a tourist in sight, just lots of locals. The local market did not have much that we wanted to shop. Mostly there were stores with saris and fabrics, western clothes (quite ugly ones) and lots of practical things. We also went through some fruit and vegetable markets, which is always a colorful experience.
I had my camera with me that day and got lots of nice pictures of street life and beautiful Indian women.
We needed some small practical things, such as detergent. It took a while including a number of odor tests before we in one of the minimal ”hole in a wall shops” managed to make ourselves understood, and finally chose a small bottle of something that hopefully could be used for washing clothes.
