Dehradun – a really nice town for shopping!
(Dehradun, India, 4th of Sep 2016)
We were arriving in Derhadun after five hours on the train. (Another messy train station.) We decided to go by foot to our hotel, which we booked in advance on Booking.com, even though it was 2 km away, it was over 30 degrees and we had our backpacks to carry. Derhadun is a fairly large but fun city with a large bazaar area we walked straight through. Lots of fabrics, garments, spices, fruit and vegetable items in small shops along the streets, a charming area.
Half an hour later we arrived at the hotel all soaked in sweat. But what a nice hotel! OK, it was a really expensive hotel for being India, around 50 Euros per night, but it was worth it. Clean, fresh, great location and a fantastic internet (Well, to be in India..). We ordered room service and got really nice and tasty Indian food that we ate at the desktop in our room. Johan had paneer butter masala (cheese in sauce) and I had Aloo Gobi (potatoes and cauliflower stew) and of course rice and bread.
We spent the evening in the bazaar where Christel was looking for an Indian tunic. After a long search she found one that she thought was nice and realized that it actually only cost 30 SEK (3,5 Euro).
On the way home we stopped at a small fast food place where we had some samosas with vegetable filling and aloo tikka (fried potato buns). Including two soft drinks it costed 15 SEK (1,8 Euro).Just like anything we’ve eaten so far it was super delicious !! And cheap – 100 rupees is about 14 SEK (1,2 Euro)!
